Hammock- Raising Your Voice

Hammock
Raising Your Voice

Hammock is a Nashville, TN band. This is a band you can play and just completely zone out to. It's so free and floaty. Have a glass of wine, soak in a hot bath and just drift away.  Here is Raising your Voice. If you like this song, you may also enjoy Blankets of Night.

Queens of the Stone Age - Go With the Flow

Queens of the Stone Age
Go With the Flow

I normally prefer mellower music, but there is something about this band that I love. My youngest really likes the artwork of this one, even though it does have sexual situations in it.  Here is Go with the Flow.

The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight

The Airborne Toxic Event
Sometime Around Midnight

Okay, so I absolutely love this song even know it was way overplayed on the radio. Normally when songs get too much play, I start to hate the song. But I still love this one. I feel so bad for the subject. Clearly his heart is broken. I think you will love this song.

This is from their self titled album released in 2008.

Street Sweeper Social Club - The New Fuck You

Street Sweeper Social Club
The New Fuck You

Okay, so I had a really crappy day at work. Everything went wrong. I felt this song was fitting as it provided me the angst that I needed today.

Since Rage Against the Machine disbanded, I have been missing my "angry rock". Here is Tom Morello and Boots Riley to provide me with some rage outlets. This song is called "The New F**k You". It is from their 2nd album, released 2010 from the Ghetto Blaster EP.

You can't help but bob your head and fly that middle digit to this song.

On a side note, Gonzaga beat Pepperdine 92-75, so the day did end up on a high note.

Owen - The Ghost of What Should Have Been

Owen-The Ghost of what should have been.
I love the lyrics. Beautiful, sad song.

The Ghost Of What Should Have Been

What else in this room reminds me of you?
The windowsill with a crucified pit of an avocado still sits in water.
What else in this room reminds me of the relationship I've ruined?
The tables I made strong enough to hold your magazines,
but not your tired legs.

One more week in this apartment,
One more week of being haunted
By the ghost of what should have been.

What else in this fucking empty room
reminds me of you?
An orphaned couch where I spent some long nights
While you went out with our friends.

What I wouldn't do to be a ghost like you,
to be somewhere new.
To leave everything,
The way you left everything that reminded you of me.

One more week in this apartment,
one more week of being haunted.

Built to Spill - Goin' Against Your Mind

Built to Spill
Goin' Against Your Mind

Built to Spill from Idaho. They are not a very well known band, but they do have quite the college following. You will often find this band on the college charts. Every time this band comes to town (usually once or twice a year, as we are neighbors WA), my husband and I have to go and see them. Here is Goin' Against your mind...one of my favorite songs.

They always put on a great show. Doug Martsch is such a musical genius. I love this song for all the shifts and layers. It is quite a long song, but such a great song. Here is a video I was able to find on Utube, but the quality is not the best. At least it gives you a taste. Too bad you can't see the bassist, as the artwork is hanging down right in his view.

Silversun Pickups - the Royal We

Silversun Pickups from Los Angeles, CA, formed in 2002. To describe this band....Think of Smashing Pumpkins...only way better. Don't get me wrong. I love the Pumpkins, but Silversun Pickups blows them out of the water! I absolutely love every song on all their albums. It's rare for a band to get 5 stars all the way through on my ipod. It happens, but it is rare. Here is The Royal We. Enjoy!

Nikki, you rock. I saw you guys live last year and I so want your life! I just need to learn how to play. I don't know how to play music, so I just enjoy it instead.

The Ladybird Unition The Ghost of a King

Okay, not many people have heard of this band. They were a band out of Tri-Cities WA, but later relocated to Seattle, WA. I absolutely love this band. The are in my top 20 of all time and they aren't even signed on a major label. I need to catch another live show sometime soon. I love this band, as it reminds me of the good old bar hopping days in the early 90's before having kids. I miss those bar days at the Big Dipper and Mothers Pub. Sigh... This is a photo I took of the guys several years ago. They look so young.

Anyways, here is a link to the bands website. Check out the video for I'm all in. Side note, the singer, Honest Jon is a tattoo artist in Seattle (Slave to the Needle). I need to finalize my back tattoo design and see about having Jon do the ink.

Motion City Soundtrack - Everything is Alright

Okay, here is one from a band called Motion City Soundtrack. I love this band. I've seen this band live July 17th, 2008. What a great show. Lots of energy. I love Justin's crazy hair. This song is called Everything is Alright. It has some great lyrics (see sample of the lyrics below).

I was not able to post the video, but here is the link to the video.

Cause I hate the ocean, theme parks and airplanes,

Talking with strangers, waiting in line..
I'm through with these pills that make me sit still.
"Are you feeling fine?"
Yes, I feel just fine.

Tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.
Oh please tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.

I'm sick of the things I do when I'm nervous
Like cleaning the oven or checking my tires
Or counting the number of tiles in the ceiling..
Head for the hills, the kitchen's on fire!
